The thinking behind our fund design

Stable economies, strong companies, an inefficient market. The Nordic corporate bond market is relatively illiquid and less transparent than the equity market. Prices are often driven more by fund flows than by issuers’ credit quality, creating opportunities for an active manager with the right fund structure and investment mandate.

The right size

We close our funds to subscriptions when they reach capacity. Allowing them to grow beyond that point would increase our revenues at existing investors’ expense, through lower returns for the same level of risk or greater risk for the same return.

Redemption on 90 days’ notice

A fund offering daily dealing in a market that cannot always provide daily liquidity needs to hold cash and bonds rated AAA or AA to meet unexpected redemptions. It may also be forced to sell during periods of market stress, when other funds are selling too and prices are often low. We can take the other side of those trades, creating opportunities and helping to protect our investors.

The right mandate

Most capital in the Nordic credit market is managed under relatively narrow mandates that largely determine where it is invested. Our broader mandate allows us to seek the most attractive compensation for risk across currencies, maturities, sectors, positions in the capital structure and credit ratings.

Concentrated but diversified across sectors

In an inefficient market, we believe active management built on proprietary company and credit analysis and ongoing relative value analysis can make a substantial difference to returns over time. A more concentrated portfolio gives each investment decision greater impact and helps us identify early signs that a company is performing differently from our expectations. We still diversify more broadly across sectors than the market as a whole, which is dominated by property companies and banks.
