Responsible investment

Responsible investment and the integration of sustainability throughout our business are essential to providing services that are sustainable over the long term. This means identifying and managing sustainability-related risks, understanding and meeting relevant requirements, and taking responsibility for our actions.

Sustainability, responsible investment and the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors are evolving rapidly. We continually seek to improve our approach so that we can apply best practice when systematically integrating ESG factors and addressing sustainability across our business.

OQAM has adopted a responsible investment policy. The full policy and the methods we currently use to integrate ESG factors into our investment process are available above. Our ESG committee’s responsibilities include ensuring that this work continues to develop.

Sustainability risks

We integrate sustainability risks into our investment strategies where applicable. A sustainability risk is an environmental, social or governance event or condition that, if it occurs, could have an actual or potential material negative impact on the value of an investment.

Examples of sustainability risks include:

  • Climate risks arising, for example, from more extreme weather conditions.
  • Transition risks, including higher costs resulting from legislative changes aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change.
  • Environmental risks, such as pollution or other forms of environmental harm.
  • Risk of corruption, bribery or poor working conditions.

Based on our integration of sustainability-related factors and the investment strategies we use, we assess the likely impact of sustainability risks on investment returns as limited. Further information is available in the document above, which describes our methods for integrating ESG factors into portfolio management.

Our remuneration policy explains how OQAM’s approach to remuneration is consistent with the integration of sustainability risks.

Principal adverse impacts (PAI)

As a financial market participant

No consideration of adverse impacts of investment decisions on sustainability factors

As described above, OQAM takes environmental and climate issues, social considerations, respect for human rights, and the prevention of corruption and bribery into account in its business.

Regulation (EU) 2019/2088 on sustainability-related disclosures (SFDR) requires financial market participants to explain how they consider the principal adverse impacts (PAI) of investment decisions on sustainability factors, or to state clearly that they do not consider such impacts.

OQAM does not currently consider PAI at entity level in accordance with SFDR requirements. We have not yet implemented the methods and processes needed to systematically identify, measure and incorporate PAI indicators into investment decisions.

We intend to introduce a framework for considering PAI and will update this information once it is in place. OQAM reviews this position at least annually and whenever there are significant changes to the business.

As a financial adviser

No consideration of adverse impacts of investment advice on sustainability factors

As a financial adviser, OQAM is required under SFDR to disclose whether it considers principal adverse impacts (PAI) on sustainability factors in the investment advice it provides.

OQAM does not currently consider PAI in its investment advice in accordance with SFDR requirements. We have not yet implemented the processes needed to systematically collect and incorporate PAI indicators into the advisory process.

This does not affect how OQAM manages sustainability risks in its advisory work or takes clients’ sustainability preferences into account under applicable regulations. These matters are addressed through our internal policies and advisory process.

We intend to introduce a framework for considering PAI in investment advice and will update this information once it is in place. OQAM reviews this position at least annually and whenever there are significant changes to the business.
